Around seventy people turned out at 10:00 on Saturday morning to see
the official unveiling of a
statue that was presented to
the Jasper Fire Department
as it celebrates it’s 75th
birthday.
Local art enthusiast Roy
James said the bronze
sculpture “Call To Duty” by
Max Turner, which was placed
in a small landscaped area
at the front door of the
fire department, symbolized
the many volunteer fire
firefighters and what they
do each day for their
communities.
James, who served as
project manager for the
effort to bring the statue
to Jasper, thanked Golden
Triangle businessman Tom
Harken and his wife Melba,
along with local state Farm
Agent Brent Meaux and his
wife Heidi, also Fred Rape
of Jasper Lawn Service along
with Mary Ashy and Marie
Smith, for helping to make
the sculpture possible.
A crowd of seventy
people, which consisted of
fireman from Jasper and the
surrounding areas, along
with police, emergency
workers and others attended
the unveiling.

Last week, Jasper Mayor
David Barber signed
proclamations not only
recognizing the birthday of
the fire department, but
also fire prevention week,
which began today.
Assistant Fire Chief Gary
Lameroux said the department
had recently received a
total of ten recruits that
wanted to serve as
volunteers and that the
future of the department was
in the hands of new members
as they continue to carry on
the tradition of helping
their community.
